Anglež David Beckham, medijsko najbolj izpostavljen nogometašev vseh časov, je od leta 2007 član moštva Los Angeles Galaxy, na sobotni tekmi proti moštvu Real Salt Lake pa bo prvič po treh letih kapetan kalifornijske zasedbe. Beckham bo kapetanski trak prevzel od Landona Donovana, ki se z ameriško izbrano vrsto pripravlja za tekmo z Argentino.
“Trener Bruce Arena me je prosil, če bi bil kapetan, kar sem z veseljem in ponosom sprejel. Na igrišču se ne bo nič spremenilo, je pa zagotovo lep občutek, ko si vodja svojih soigralcev na igrišču,” je dejal Beckham, ki že ima tovrstne izkušnje, saj je bil v obdobju od leta 2000 do 2006 tudi kapetan angleške reprezentance.
Beckham je bil kapetan moštva iz mesta angelov v svoji krstni sezoni 2007/08, nato pa ga je predal Donovanu.(sta)
