Zaradi varčevalnih ukrepov revščina grozi še 25 milijonom Evropejcev
Varčevalni ukrepi evropskih vlad bi lahko do leta 2025 na rob revščine pripeljali še do 25 milijonov Evropejcev, je danes posvarila humanitarna agencija Oxfam. Varčevalne politike je agencija označila za “moralni in gospodarski nesmisel”, poroča francoska tiskovna agencija AFP.
Vodja Oxfamove pisarne za EU Natalia Alonso opozarja, da bi lahko način, na katerega se Evropa spopada z gospodarsko krizo, povozil več desetletij boja za socialne pravice. “Agresivni rezi v socialno varstvo, zdravstvo in izobraževanje, krčenje delavskih pravic in nepošteno obdavčenje milijone Evropejcev zapirajo v krog revščine, ki bi lahko trajal desetletja,” je dodala.
Po navedbah Alonsove varčevanje koristi le 10 odstotkom najbogatejših Evropejcev, katerih premoženje se je v tem obdobju še povečalo. “Grčija, Irska, Italija, Portugalska, Španija in Velika Britanija – države, ki najbolj agresivno varčujejo – bodo kmalu beležile največje stopnje neenakosti na svetu, če njihovi voditelji ne bodo spremenili smeri,” je opozorila Alonsova.
Dodala je, da bi varčevalne politike do leta 2025 na rob revščine lahko potisnile še do 15 do 25 milijonov prebivalcev EU. S tem bi se število ljudi na robu revščine v EU povečalo na 146 milijonov, kar bi predstavljalo več kot četrtino vsega prebivalstva. Oxfam je sicer pred zasedanjem finančnih ministrov v Vilniusu spomnil, da obstajajo alternative varčevanju. Evropske vlade so pozvali k novemu gospodarskemu in socialnemu modelu, ki bo vlagal v ljudi, krepil demokracijo in zastopal pošteno obdavčenje. (sta)
